What To Expect In A Session At Makali Healing Arts?
Marquita Kalithia | MAR 1
If you have never had a session with me before, it is completely normal to feel a little unsure about what to expect. Maybe you are new to Reiki, have only ever had a basic spa massage, or you are coming in with chronic pain and a very sensitive nervous system. My intention is for the whole experience to feel clear and grounded, so that you feel safe and genuinely welcomed from the moment you arrive.
This post walks you through what a session with me looks like, step by step.
After you book your session, you will receive confirmation details and any forms to complete. These questions help me understand your health history, current symptoms, and what you are hoping to receive from the work. You do not have to know exactly what modality you need, only what you are living with in your body.
Wear comfortable clothing and plan a little buffer time after your session if you can, so you do not need to rush right back into your day.
When you arrive, I will welcome you into the space and give you a moment to land. We will spend a few minutes checking in about:
How you are feeling physically, emotionally, and energetically that day
Any new pain, flares, or stressors you are carrying
What you are hoping to feel by the end of the session
This is also the time to share any preferences or boundaries around touch, talking, pressure, or sensitive areas. I will always work within what feels safe and supportive for you.
Based on what you share, I will recommend a focus for the session. For example:
A more massage-focused session for tight muscles and physical pain
A Reiki-centered session if your system is overwhelmed or touch feels like too much
An integrative session that blends massage, Reiki, and (when appropriate) sound
You do not have to pick the techniques. I translate what you tell me into a plan that fits the service you booked.
For massage-focused sessions like the Signature Tailored Massage or The Reiki-Integrative Massage, you will undress to your comfort level and lie on the table under the sheets and blanket. You are always properly draped, and only the area being worked on will be uncovered.
For Reiki-focused sessions or the 1:1 Reiki Soundbath, you remain fully clothed and rest comfortably on the table, with blankets and bolsters as needed.
A session may include:
Focused massage on specific areas of tension, using techniques like Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, or trigger point
Reiki to support your energy system, calm your nervous system, and invite emotional and mental softness
Sound, when included in the service or added on, to offer gentle vibration and tone that deepen relaxation
Often, Reiki helps your body shift out of “stress mode” into a softer, more receptive state, so the physical work of massage can meet less resistance and sink in more comfortably.
You are welcome to rest quietly, drift, or speak up at any time if you need more or less pressure, a change of focus, or something feels off. Your feedback is always invited and respected.
When the hands-on time is complete, I will gently bring you back, give you a few moments to reorient, and then we will check in about how you are feeling.
We might talk about:
Any shifts you noticed in your body or emotions
Simple after-care suggestions (hydration, rest, gentle movement)
How you might expect to feel over the next day or two
You are never rushed out the door. I want you to feel grounded enough to step back into your day.
Everyone’s experience is different, but common responses include:
Feeling lighter, softer, or more open in the body
A quieter mind and sense of inner calm
Tiredness as the body processes, or a “spacious” feeling
Emotional release or clarity around something you have been carrying
If you ever have questions after you leave, you are always welcome to reach out.
This way of working can be especially supportive if you:
Live with chronic pain, autoimmune conditions, or ongoing fatigue
Feel “stuck” in fight-or-flight or shutdown
Are highly sensitive or easily overwhelmed by sensory input
Are navigating grief, transition, burnout, or big life changes
Want healing that honors both your physical body and your energy
You do not have to know which modality you need before you arrive. That is the beauty of integrative work; there is room for all of you.
If you are curious about this work but still a little nervous, that is okay. You do not need perfect words or a clear plan. You can start with a simple Connection Call or come straight to the table, exactly as you are.
